Rise Against Hunger Experience

They may look like simple bags of rice and soy, but Rise Against Hunger meals represent the hopes and dreams of people in the communities we serve. Our volunteers are the heart of our mission to end hunger and we could not make the impact we do in South Africa without you. This page is your guide to everything you need to know about hosting an event with Rise Against Hunger Africa!

Lend a Hand to People Facing Hunger.

As many as 3.2 million children in South Africa do not receive enough nutrition to lead an active, healthy life. At Rise Against Hunger Africa, we work with Hunger Champions — just like you — to end hunger in communities across South Africa.

Our Rise Against Hunger events provide lasting, real-life impact as your group works together for a start-to-finish meal packing event to combine rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a packet of 23 vitamins and minerals into life-changing meal packs. Rise Against Hunger meals stores easily, transport quickly and have a long shelf-life to help meet the immediate nutritional needs of people facing food insecurity, paving the way toward resilient and bright futures!

Ensure Children Have Access to Nutrition & Education

With a mission to alleviate hunger in South Africa, the Early Childhood Development Center (ECD Connect) Program, has a primary focus on ensuring children between the ages of 1 and 6 have access to nutritious meals and education. Meal packing events pave the way toward brighter futures.

  • An opportunity to visit and deliver meals to our beneficiaries.

Here’s What You’ll Need to Host a Meal Packaging Event!

If you’re ready to take the next step and join us in the fight against hunger, here are three things you’ll need to host your event!

Volunteers

A team of volunteers consists of 12 - 18 individuals who can package an average 3,240 meals per hour. The number of volunteers will determine a meal packing target for the event, which will create a specific impact in our allocated community.

Donation

Our simple donation formula is calculated by the number of meals your team will pack. One meal currently costs R3,70, which includes all ingredient, distribution and monitoring costs, however specific event costs based on venue and location are not included in this figure.

Event Space

A large enough indoor venue needs to be provided, to accommodate all production lines and ingredients, as per the health act. For every production line created, we need an approximate 45m2 and 5 trestle tables provided by the donor.
